The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says it has received over 5,000 media accreditation applications for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed for Ivory Coast.

In a statement on its official website on Saturday, CAF said the applications are 90 percent more than those received for the last edition in Cameroon.

The continental football governing body said the applications were received from over 70 nationalities.

CAF added that the high demand has spurred the confederation to implement a quota system for all the countries due to space demands.

The statement said the host nation would get 30 percent of the media accreditation while participating countries would get 35 percent.

Neighbouring countries of the host country will get 10 percent, and the rest of the world will be handed 25 percent.

“CAF remains committed to ensure that fairness is applied across the board in allocation and implementation of quotas,” the statement reads.
