The Delta state police command says it has arrested one Chinemem Adigwe for selling fake alcoholic drinks made with ethanol, water, and flavour.

In a statement on Sunday, Bright Edafe, Delta police spokesperson, warned the public to be mindful of the places they purchase drinks from.

“This suspect, Chinemem Adigwe, was arrested in Bomadi LGA,” the statement reads.

“He mixes ethanol, water, and flavor, then buys empty bottles of Gordon’s, Chelsea, and even mc dowel, puts his fake drinks inside, and then sells them to consumers as if it’s the real drinks he is selling.

“Pls, let’s be mindful of the people and places we buy drinks from.”

The arrest is the latest in the clampdown of persons dealing in fake beverages in the country.

In March, the police command in Lagos said its officers raided a house in the Agege area of the state, where fake alcoholic drinks were being produced.

Four people were arrested at the illegal distillery.

In December 2023, police raided a dilapidated building used for the production of fake drinks in the Ojo axis of Lagos.

Two suspects were arrested during the raid.
