‘Cameroonian soldiers harassing us’ — Taraba LG chairman cries out

John Amamzalla, chairman of Kurmi LGA in Taraba state, says soldiers from Cameroon are harassing some communities under his council.

Amamzalla said the soldiers have repeatedly invaded Mairogo and Tosso villages.

The LGA chairman said the soldiers claimed that they are looking for Ambazonian agitators, hence the invasion of these communities.

Just like the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Nigeria, Ambazonia is seeking to secede from Cameroon.

In May, TheCable had reported how IPOB and Ambazonia entered into an alliance for the exchange of personnel and weapons.

Amamzalla said there is a need for the foreign soldiers to go through the right channels in their hunt for agitators.

“The residents of Mairogo and Tosso villages are repeatedly being intimidated by Cameroonian soldiers, who claimed they are searching for Ambazonian agitators who fled Cameroon in the heat of their clash and taking refuge in some communities in the area,” The Guardian quoted the chairman to have said.

He said he has visited the affected communities at this instance of Darius Ishaku, Taraba governor, adding that the government is determined to protect lives and property.

Nigeria border towns have been hosts to refugees from Cameroon since the outbreak of a crisis between the northern and southern parts of the country.
