“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate”. Oprah Winfrey

The holidays come with an extra dose of activities and schedules.

It can therefore be overwhelming, demanding and stressful juggling all the many elements at this time; what to do with the children, what to wear for parties, searching for the perfect gift, etc.

Sometimes the holiday stress brings out the worst not only in children, but in us too.

Do we wait for the rain to stop, or do we dance in it without giving a second’s thought to getting wet?

A client of mine recently showed up to his session a bit depressed. After a prior week of unexpected events that enabled him achieve previous goals speedily, he had hit a “slow” week.

“Nothing is happening,” he lamented, “I feel so unaccomplished.”

I refrained from giving him a long hard stare of disbelief! No, he did not just say that!

I knew this wasn’t true. He had taken all sorts of steps toward his goal; some of them required summing up courage and facing fears of judgment and failure. But he didn’t feel accomplished, because he hadn’t seen any external results.

This is something we all have a tendency to do. We don’t think “achievement” unless we see external results. We tend to dismiss the seemingly small actions we take, even though they represent a big step internally, whether facing a fear or shifting a mindset.

So, you didn’t grow your investment portfolio to exactly where you wanted it to be, you weren’t able to kick start that business idea, or you didn’t learn to drive for some reasons known only to you.

Did you start work on expanding that idea on your mind? Did you start a new exercise regimen that you followed through? Did you actually talk to someone at that party this time? What did you achieve? Celebrate it.

As the year gradually draws to an end, give yourself some time daily to go over your accomplishments; Big or small. By enjoying the little things of everyday life, it will give inspiration for your work and allow you to truly appreciate what you have.

Celebrate yourself when other people choose to celebrate you. If someone congratulates you or gives you a compliment, don’t be bashful or disagree with what they are saying. You deserve that compliment, and by saying thank you instead of deflecting the comment, you are allowing yourself to receive it and feel powerful in that moment

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate”.

Celebrate You!
