Buhari appoints new head of Sharia court of appeal

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the name of Ibrahim Rufai Imam to the senate for confirmation as the grand kadi of the federal capital territory (FCT) sharia court of appeal.

Buhari’s nomination was contained in a letter which Senate President Bukola Saraki read on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

The president said his nomination was in accordance with section 261 of the constitution.

“In accordance with provision of section 261 of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the pleasure of forwarding the appointment of Ibrahim Rufai Imam as the grand kadi of the Sharia court of appeal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja for confirmation,” the letter read.
