Sanusi Ado Bayero, outgoing managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has described his removal as ‘destiny’, saying change is the only constant thing in life.

Speaking on Tuesday during his handing over ceremony, Ado Bayero thanked staff of the organisation for their support during his tenure, urging them to give their best to the nation and the ports.

“My advice is that the process that took place is reminding us that we need to do our best and move on to the next stage of life,” he said.

“The most important thing is to develop good attitude to life from the experience I have gained.”

“There is a high level of professionalism here. I urge everyone to see the organisation as one that will outlive us.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed the son of the late emir of Kano on April 29, 2014 after dismissing Habib Abdullahi.

However, President Muhammadu Buhari reinstated Abdullahi on August 13.

On his part, Abdullahi described his reinstatement as the will of God and the desire of the president that he should continue.

He also called for the support of stakeholders, including staff, for a remarkable turnaround of the maritime sector.

“I see my return as the will of God. I like to beg each one of us to see it as a challenge not only to me, but to my predecessor and I will say is a collective destiny,” he said.

“For whatever reason, I am back on the job. It is a collective responsibility and the challenge is for us all.

“I ask for your prayers and support for us (management), myself and for the outgoing managing director.

“The mood of the nation is positive change and I hope each of us is ready for that change.”

The handing over was conducted by Eniola Williams, NPA’S head of legal affairs, at the headquarters of the agency in Marina, Lagos.
