Chelsea have taken another step towards the Barclays Premier League title after playing out a goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The result restored their 10-point lead at the top of the league and meant Jose Mourinho remains unbeaten against Arsene Wenger in 13 games.

Referee Michael Oliver proved to be the talking point in a pulsating first half as he turned down no more than four penalty claims between the two sides.

Oscar was involved on two occasions as Hector Bellerin and David Ospina brought the Brazilian down in the area. Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was booked for simulation and Gary Cahill was adjudged to have not blocked Santi Cazorla’s shot with his arm.

Didier Drogba replaced Oscar at the interval after the midfielder showed signs of concussion following his collision with Ospina, but he did little to ignite a Chelsea side who seemed content with a point.

Mesut Ozil and substitute Danny Welbeck missed chances in the closing stages, but the Blues held on  to end Arsenal’s eight-game winning streak to move to within six points of the title.

Manchester United’s awful run at Goodison Park continued as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat.

United have now won just once in their last seven visits to Everton.

The visitors were poor after romping to a six-game winning streak but have now lost in successive league games to Chelsea and Everton.

Goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas gave Everton their fifth win in their last six league matches.
