There was pandemonium in Kaduna state on Wednesday following the killing of a woman by an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS).
A witness told TheCable that the incident occurred around 2pm close to Jere, a town in the state.
The security official was said to have killed her in error, as his main target reportedly escaped.
“The woman was not their target. The security men flagged down a vehicle, and the driver refused to stop. Immediately they opened fire and a stray bullet hit a woman in a commercial vehicle nearby,” the witness said.
“The woman died on the spot and her five children who were in the bus with her wept uncontrollably. Her corpse was taken to the Toll Gate at Kakau/Sabon Gayan community. The people who saw the corpse were enraged, and this triggered protests.”
Many commuters were said to have been stranded, as both lanes of the Kaduna- Abuja road were blocked.
It took the intervention of the police for normalcy to be restored.
Adamu Ibrahim, Kaduna state police commissioner, assured the people of their safety, saying the official who killed the innocent woman had been arrested.
