A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Bebeji local government area of Kano state has allegedly beaten a boy to death.

The boy was said to have rushed to the corps members’ lodge to collect some fruits that are usually distributed among children by occupants of the NYSC lodge.

Out of desperation to get his own share of the fruits, the deceased had allegedly provoked the suspect who descended on him and beat him into coma.

Shehu Suleiman, public relations officer of a group known as Bebeji Transformation for Change, who gave the details of the incident, said the policemen had barricaded the area to prevent residents from attacking the corps member.

He said the security operatives had whisked the corps member away while the body of the deceased had been taken to a hospital.

When contacted, Ladan Baba, Kano state NYSC coordinator, confirmed that he had been briefed about the incident.

Baba said the names of the corps member and the deceased were not revealed for security reasons.

He disclosed that some security agents had already been deployed to the town to investigate the incident.
