Court remands French national for ‘defiling six-year-old girl’ in Oyo

A family court sitting in Iyaganku, on Friday, ordered the remand of Emilien Salingue, a French national, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.

According to NAN, P. O. Adetuyibi, the presiding judge, said that the 18-year-old French national be remanded in a correctional facility in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The judge ordered that the suspect be remanded pending legal advice from the Oyo state directorate of public prosecution (DPP).

Adetuyibi said the offence contravenes the provisions of section 34 of the Oyo state child rights law 2006.

During the trial, Oluwakemi Arowosaye, the prosecution counsel, said the suspect committed the offence at about 1:25 pm on April 7.

Arowosaye said the suspect coaxed the minor to his friend’s room and allegedly defiled her.

The case was adjourned till July 20, for mention.

In another development, an Ikeja chief magistrates court, on Friday, ordered the remand of a man, identified as John Agbo, in Kiriri correctional facility for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Lagos.

The offence was said to contravene the provisions of section 261 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015.

Speaking during the trial, Kehinde Ajayi, the prosecution counsel, said the 34-year-old suspect committed the offence at No 9, Ogunsanya St., Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, last year.

E. Kubeinje, the judge, said the case should be forwarded to the state director of public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The judge adjourned the case until May 30.
