Court remands man for ‘defiling 7-year-old girl’ in Lagos
An Ikeja sexual offences and domestic violence court has remanded a man identified as Wasiu Oriyomi for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl in Lagos.
NAN reports that the suspect was arraigned for defilement but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Speaking during the hearing on Tuesday, Inumidun Solarin, the state counsel, told the court that the suspect committed the offence in August 2022.
Solarin said the suspect had unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl at Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi in Ikeja.
She said the offence contradicts Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, adding that the crime attracts life imprisonment if convicted.
Rahman Oshodi, the presiding judge, ordered that the suspect be remanded in Kirikiri correctional centre until the commencement of trial.
Oshodi adjourned the case until February 22, 2024, for commencement of trial.
In November, a mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar school in Iberekodo area of Ogun, was arrested for allegedly raping two girls.
On December 4, a man identified as Reuben Temitope, was remanded for allegedly abducting and defiling a 13-year-old girl in Lagos.
