Dapo Abiodun: Tinubu inherited almost comatose economy — there’s light at end of tunnel

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, says the administration of President Bola Tinubu inherited an “almost comatose” economy.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, Abiodun said the administration has done what no government had been able to do in the nation’s history.

The Ogun governor cited the removal of petrol subsidy as one of the gains of the Tinubu administration.

During his inauguration on May 29, Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidy — a development that led to a sudden increase in the pump price of petrol and soaring inflation.

Abiodun said Tinubu has the capacity to turn things around economically, adding that there is no gain without pain.

“President Bola Tinubu administration has been very bold and audacious by taking the bull by the horns,” he said.

“They have done what no other government has done in the history of Nigeria.

“They have had to deregulate to save Nigerians and they deregulated at a time when the pricing of petroleum was at the largest margin.

“But knowing fully well, they either did that then or the country would be brought to its knees.

“Like they said, there can’t be any gain without pain. He has inherited an administration that was almost comatose.

“You know our president, besides being a former governor and a senator, he is also an accountant.

“So, he is someone who is very spot on and all hands are on deck to turn this economy around. We are very hopeful and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra state and a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), also said last week that the Tinubu administration inherited a dead economy.
