Destiny can be delayed not denied, says female ex-speakership hopeful

Miriam Onuoha, a former speakership aspirant in the house of representatives, says she had a “wonderful” experience seeking to clinch the number four seat in the country.

Onuoha, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had contested to be speaker of the green chamber.

However, the lawmaker, at the last minute, stepped down for Tajudeen Abbas, who was elected as the speaker. 

Speaking with journalists after the inauguration of the 10th house of representatives on Tuesday, Onuoha she had a “wonderful experience” seeking to be elected speaker.

Onuoha, who represents Okigwe north federal constituency of Imo state, said destiny can only be delayed not denied, alluding that she may contest for the position in the next assembly.

“I believe sometimes your desires come to pass and sometimes it is delayed,” she said.

“For me, destiny can be delayed, it can never be denied. I will continue to make progress on the floor and make valuable contributions to nation-building.”

The lawmaker said she stepped down for Abbas who was the preferred candidate of the APC for the position because of “party supremacy and directive”.

“I actually did step down before President Bola Tinubu at the villa yesterday,” she said.

The legislator congratulated Abbas, saying she looked forward to a better composition of leadership and the inclusion of more women in the leadership.
