The Department of State Services (DSS) and the army have recovered guns and 592 rounds of ammunition in a sting operation in Ebonyi state.

The arms were recovered at Effium, a town in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi.

AK-47s, a G3 rifle, a pump action and a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) were among the firearms recovered in the operation.

Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, did not respond to calls from TheCable.

However, TheCable learnt that some suspects were arrested and would be arraigned in court soon.

TheCable understands that four people were arrested in the course of the operation.

Some residents of Effium said a shrine which served as a “protective shield” for armed groups was raided during the operation.

The suspects are said to be involved in the Ezza-Effium crisis which has lasted for months without abating.

There are allegations that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are part of those fuelling the crisis.
