The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a post primary election reconciliation committee for the Edo governorship election.

Asue Ighodalo, a businessman, won the PDP governorship primary poll organised by the national working committee (NWC) of the party for the Edo governorship election slated for September.

However, Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo, won the parallel governorship primary organised by a faction of the party.

In a statement on Sunday, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP national publicity secretary, said the committee aims to reconcile all aggrieved members to work for the party’s victory in the September 21 governorship election.

Ologunagba also said the committee was constituted by the NWC in pursuant to the provisions of the PDP constitution and guidelines after its successful conduct of Edo governorship primary election.

He said the committee would be chaired by Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, and would include Emmanuel Enoidem, as secretary, and Jacob Otorkpa as administrative secretary.

Others are Ahmed Makarfi, Seriake Dickson, Tunde Ogheha, Stella Omu, Dame Esther Uduehi, Olalere Oyewunmi, Sandy Onor, and Isiaka Gold,

Ologunagba urged all critical stakeholders and members of PDP in Edo to remain steadfast and continue to work hard for the success of the party and its governorship candidate in the election.

In a similar move for reconciliation, Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, had asked aggrieved members of the PDP in Edo to embrace peace.

“The party has made a choice, and it is not in dispute that the choice is a good one,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

“It is, therefore, on this note that I plead with all other aspirants and aggrieved stakeholders to reconcile and negotiate to make sure that Edo remains a PDP state.”
