The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned Mike Obaze before an Ikeja special offences court, for allegedly stealing N15.5 million, being proceeds of car sales.

Obaze, whose place of residence was not stated, was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on theft.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ahmed Yerima, EFCC counsel, prayed the court for a trial date. Nneka Nkana, the defence counsel, informed the court of summon for bail application dated February 13. She told the court that the defence would call two witnesses.

Yerima informed the court that he has just been served and that they should give him some time to go through the documents.

The EFCC counsel told the court that the defendant reportedly converted N7 million, proceeds from the sale of Mercedes Benz GL 12 model, which belongs to Anene Nwandukwe.

He alleged that the defendant converted N8.5 million, proceeds from the purchase of Toyota Corolla 2015 model and Toyota Camry 2011 model, to his personal use.

The commission said the offence contravenes the Criminal Laws of Lagos state, 2015.

Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe, the judge, said the defendant would be remanded at a correctional centre.

Abike-Fadipe adjourned the case to February 22 for hearing of the bail application.
