The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a N4.8 million unlawful enrichment charge against Agbadu James Fishim, a judge of the National Industrial Court (NIC).

Fishim, who is one of the judges recalled from suspension by the National Judicial Council (NJC), will face a 19-count charge bordering on unlawful enrichment.

The case was filed at a Lagos high court in Igbosere.

The judge is accused of having an unexplainable “significant increase” in his assets which was not commensurate with his lawful income.

According to the charge sheet seen by The Nation, Fishim received the N4.8 million from Felix Fagbohungbe, Paul Usoro, Uche Obi, Adeniyi Akintola, Gani Adetola-Kaseem, Joseph Nwobike and a ‘Dr. Banire’ – all senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs).

Also, Enobong Etteh, a lawyer, and Alliance Law Firm, said to be run by Obi, allegedly gave Fishim money.

It said that the judge received the sum between 2013 and 2015.

The charge sheet said Fagbohungbe gave Fishim a sum of N1.3 million in four instalments of N200,000.00, N700,000, N250,000 and N250,000.

The anti-corruption agency claimed that Etteh gave the judge N400,000 in two instalments of N200,000.

It said while Adetola-Kaseem gave the judge N100,000, Usoro allegedly gave him N1.1 million in three instalments of N350,000, N400,000 and N400,000.

The EFCC said Nwobike gave the judge N150,000 and N100,000 making a total of N250,000 while Banire gave him N500,000 amongst other sums received.
