Egypt 2019: Super Eagles lose to Senegal in pre-Afcon friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 1-0 to Senegal in a Pre-Afcon friendly at the Ismailia Stadium on Sunday evening.

The game served as a test for the two teams who are all preparing for the competition in Egypt.

Coach Gernot Rohr also used the match to assess his 23-man squad for the Cup of Nations.

In a game which had Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, John Obi Mikel and Jamilu Collins all having a feel, Nigeria could not take advantage of the opportunities that came their way as Senegal secured victory courtesy an 18th-minute strike from defender Idrissa Gueye.

Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi who started the game in post for the Super Eagles was faultless in the goal conceded.

Rohr who now have a fair idea of his team is expected to field a strong starting XI for the team’s opening game against Burundi on Saturday.

The Nigeria delegation will depart from Ismailia on Monday morning, for Alexandria – venue of their Group B attrition against Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar.
