A magistrate’s court sitting in Ado Ekiti, capital of Ekiti, has remanded Adegoke Adewuyi (pictured left), the pastor who allegedly faked his own kidnap in prison.

Adegoke was earlier arrested by the police for allegedly organising his own kidnap and demanding N3 million ransom from his congregation.

When the case was mentioned on Monday, Monica Ekebuilo, police prosecutor told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 11 at a hotel within Ado Ekiti.

She said the act of “aiding and abetting kidnapping” as well as false representation were committed by the cleric, adding that both were grievous and punishable under section 5 and 7 of state kidnap and terrorism prohibition law.

Ekebuilo told the court that the suspect has confessed to the crime of demanding N3 million ransom having faked his own kidnap.

Dupe Akosile, the magistrate, who listened to the submissions of both parties, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the director of public prosecutor.

He then adjourned the case till July 24.
