Elumelu to speak on entrepreneurship at Harvard

Tony Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holdings, will engage thought leaders and students on issues bordering around development strategies for Africa at Harvard University.

He is also expected to deliver a keynote address at the 2016 edition of the annual Harvard International Development Conference (HIDC) in Cambridge Massachusetts on April 2.

The conference, which has as its theme: ‘Pathways to Progress’, is organised by the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.the businessman will share ideas on the promotion of entrepreneurship development and his economic philosophy of Africapitalism.

A statement issued by his media team says Africapitalism encourages long term private sector investments in strategic sectors of the economy that create economic prosperity and social wealth.

“On case study that would be on focus is the Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP). The 10-year, $100m commitment by Mr. Elumelu, to identify and empower 10,000 African entrepreneurs with the aim of creating 1 million jobs and adding $10 billion to African economies, has entered its second year and is beginning to impact on the African economic landscape,” the statement read.

 

The businessman will also speak  on connecting Africa through internal solutions for development at  Columbia University in New York.

Donald Kaberuka, former president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), and other respected scholars and business leaders across the globe are also expected to attend the conferences.
