With less than two weeks to the convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman of the campaign of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has advised his party faithful to elect a “fighter” as chairman.

The caretaker committee led by Ahmed Markarfi has vowed that the convention would go on smoothly, and three prominent personalities have declared interest in the race, with more expected to join.

Those who have made their interest known are: Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications; Olabode George, former vice-chairman of the party in the south-west; and Gbenga Daniel, the immediate past governor of Ogun state.

But Fani-Kayode did not say whether any of these individuals falls into the category of a “fighter”.

He only pointed out that a “weakling” should not be given the opportunity to lead the party.

“I hope that the PDP will not make the mistake of electing a weakling as Chairman. We need a fighter: someone that is courageous and strong,” he wrote on Twitter.

Fani-Kayode, who is currently facing alleged charges of money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been very critical of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
