Fayose challenges Buhari to probe those who gave him private jets during his campaign

Fayose challenges Buhari to probe those who gave him private jets during his campaign
August 05
16:04 2015

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to probe those who funded his electioneering, including those who gave him jets to fly before the general election.

He criticised the anti-corruption stance of Buhari, describing it as mere noise-making, witch-hunt and diversionary tactic to hoodwink the public into overlooking the seeming failure of the government to deliver on its electoral promises.

Fayose, in a press statement, said that the president’s recent claim of knowing the location of stolen funds are unwarranted if he indeed has a hang on how to recover them.

“If President Mohammadu Buhari knows exactly where the stolen funds are kept and who looted the funds, he does not need all these public announcements.

“Rather, he should make public names of the looters and bring back the purported stolen funds, location of which he has identified. It is when he is able to bring back the money that he should make announcements of recovered funds.

“You don’t announce a process to the public. Rather, you announce the results because that is what is of interest to the people. It is like you are announcing that you know where armed robbers reside, won’t they change their location?”

Speaking further, he said: “What the All Progressives Congress (APC) spin-doctors and their collaborators in the presidency are doing is simple. It is such that when there is nothing to tell the people as per the rising Boko Haram attacks, Dollar and other foreign currencies exchange rates, petrol pump price and other seeming failed promises of the APC federal government, they will accuse former president Goodluck Jonathan and his men of corruption, insult Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and make noise about fighting corruption.

“President Buhari and his men should however know that Nigeria of today is different from that of 1983 and the system under which they are operating now is also different. Nigerians are watching and unlike 1983, nothing can prevent them from asking questions, which they are already asking.”

He challenged Buhari to start the anti-corruption fight from his party, saying that Nigerians know those who the president’s election and are waiting for him to reveal their sources of income.

“Some of those who sponsored the president’s election have not done any other jobs apart from holding public offices. Yet, they provided private jets and funds with which the president campaigned across the length and breadth of Nigeria. He should let Nigerians know where they got money to buy private jets and the several billions of naira spent on his election.

“Mr President and his men should know that these planned efforts to brand PDP as a party of corrupt people and suppress the giant strides of the Jonathan administration won’t work because Nigerians know that APC is peopled with more corrupt people and the President must treat the issue of corruption without looking at political parties.

“No one sits with corruption to fight corruption because as it is today, President Buhari is sitting among corrupt people and he must first extricate himself from the comity of corruption that he is before his anti-corruption stance can be accorded respect.”

I salute PMB for his uncommon patience and maturity as regards the unwarranted attacks Fayose always directed at him without any justification or provocation! If I was in PMB’s shoes, Federal might would have been used to cut Fayose down to his precise size!

You are right brother. Don’t mind this intruder who are using 2 months plus days to compare 6 years government.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo launch the EFCC and it’s fought it corruption to some certain level. Though, he was also accused of watch hunting his enemies but ask me? Are these people alleged of the offenses committed it or not? If yes, it’s a caution on others b’cos no permanent friend or enemy in politics.I was even surprise that suddenly EFCC started getting effective again.
Is this anyway compared to a government who is not care atall on corruption where any govt. official do anything anyhow and get away with it. Nigerians started seeing corruption as ways of life.
Bad belle people, pls stay away from this present government. Anyway, you have the right to criticise bcos it also helps.
      Thx & God bless Nigeria

Sorry my dear man, you are still living in the jackboot era with those who stopped the teaching of history in Nigerian schools, in order to hide their crimes against humanity from the Nigerian people. Nigeria and Nigerians have moved on, so please understand that even this reformed jackboot knows his place and will not dare the consequences of what your petty little mind is suggesting.

Guy, Fayose I must confess made a lot of sense. Charity begins at home. Have you seen the symbol of justice ….. It’s a woman who is blind folded (impartiality) spreading her both handout sideways. On the right, the sword (punishment) and on the left a balance (equality). We all know that there are as much corrupt persons in both parties even worse in the APC.

That’s why you may never be a president. If you don’t agree with his opinion kindly state yours. What has the president done since inception outside the traditional Terry-G shout and empty noise and threats. The economy has gone worst than he met it, what could be worst than the high rate of insecurity and the free fall of the naira under his watch. Or is the bad label he and his co-travellers gave Nigeria in the USA. Nigerians are now known as oil thefts and corruption ridden people and no one can be trusted according to Mr president. Good presidents are ambassadors of their country, but president Buhari is a critic of his own government, what an irony. Have you seen President Obama speak about the ills of the USA outside the shores of the US? open your eyes man. This president is too beggarly for my liking

Gov. Fayose is right. Take away the log in your eyes before the speck in another man’s eyes. Let us know those who stole the billions of USD of our crude oil. Start the prosecution. It is most unnecessary to announce to us that you know where the stolen funds are without names attached to them. We need to know the thieves first and how to recover the loot.
Country men and women, we have to shine our eyes. The campaign is over, its the govt of the Federation that we are looking at right now to deliver, NOT APC. APC will see the effect of failed promises in 2019. Wake up FGN, face governance squarely. Please.

Excellent talk! he was in the Oval Office with 419 Okorocha, corrupt Ameachi who used Rivers state resources to bank roll PMB election, and Khaki trouser Oshiomole that have indebted Edo State beyond reason, while Obama had Kerry and his under secretary for the White House to take notes and advance their agenda. PMB came and left empty handed with name calling he promoted advanced by U. S. Senate. Book Haram is more emboldened than before with attack on the Chief of Defence staff’s village shortly after he was named.

Kudos to Gov. Ayodele Fayose for his brave and constructive critisms on President Buhari’s administration! It seems he is the only daring and vibrant chieftain in the People’s Democratic Party. Where are the rest PDP stalwarts? Have they been blown away by Hurricane Buhari? Yes, Mr. Buhari must listen to honest Nigerians. After 60 days in office, we are still purchasing the subsided petrol and kerosene for between #110 – #160, and #150 -#250 respectively in his acclaimed no-nonsense regime! The Naira is appreciating and depreciating in values that are detrimental to our economy. The virtually dead Boko Haram have revive! The economy is almost grounded under his watch! On the electricity, could buckling up alone generate and distribute electricity? Let us be real, if appreciable investments or improvement on Kainji Dam, the 1st ever in almost 30 years wasn’t done by GEJ and the increased rainfall this year would the Megawatt have just appeared because PMB is now in charge. Recall the gas distribution to the gas powered turbines (installed by OBJ, Yar Adua and GEJ) were being disrupted by vandals (Nigerians) which have not changed. Let us be objective and real in our contributions

While Fayose has a right to express his views. His concerns are misplaced for the following reasons.

    1. Reports indicate that petitions with irrefutable evidence is being provided to the PMB government for looting that they are going after. So they did not gonlooking for who to probe. So Fayose can also provide same evidence and then challenge PMB for not following through.

    2. None of those being investigated are tried on secret courts. So they work be vindicated if they really never looted Nigeria.

    3. Fayose and PDP had several years to go after corrupt people and did nothing. So you can’t accuse someone now because you choose not to probably because you were benefiting from their looting.

    4. While no Govenrment can go after all that stole, it can’t be wrong to go after some provided they truly stole.

We are really a very complex society and highly far away from egalitarianism. A governor of a state talking like Fayose is a reflection of our state of development. Decorum expected at the State government level is abused by his utterances. There are more than enough to do than all these vituperations. We have not addressed basic necessities of our local communities not to talk of meeting human living index targets and yet our State Governor’s concern is political noice making. Until we get there, we will not be able to appreciate basic public conducts in state affairs. Very sad indeed!

The summary of our friend challenges is that PMB should neither hesitate nor wait to bring the looters to book irrespective of their party affiliation. Instead of going for open confrontation he should have sought a gentle audience with Baba Buhari who always have listening ears to constructive advice.

Well, I find it both thought-provoking and laughable that, generally-speaking, Nigerian politicians, across the board, always cry “political victimization” each time an incumbent government embarks upon or seeks to embark upon a serious probe of bureaucratic corruption. This often-repeated cry of political victimization by corrupt leaders was at play during the reign of Murtala Mohammed; it was evoked during the reign of Olusegun Obasanjo as a military leader; it was also applicable during his time as a civilian leader. Can someone recall a time when corrupt leaders in Nigeria did not cry “foul play” any time that a government of Nigeria–military or civilian–sought to take a serious action against bureaucratic corruption? These corrupt leaders never hesitate to allege ethnic, religious or political victimization anytime a government dares to question how they amassed their ill-gotten wealth. However, have you noticed that these same wolf-crying corrupt leaders did not remember to share their loot with members of their ethnic or religious groups when they were diverting government funds to private ends? I sometimes wonder about the IQ of ordinary, long-suffering Nigerians who naively echo these fake cries of political victimization by their corrupt leaders even though they never received or collected a “kobo” from the thieves. Who in Nigeria does not know that, generally-speaking, bureaucratic corruption afflicts all governmental sectors of Nigeria, including local, state and federal entities?
Ordinarily, auditing of government funds, unearthing of corrupt deals, indictment of the guilty and recovery of stolen funds should be an ongoing undertaking on the part of any government. If the previous administration–at all levels of governance–lived up to this auditing and oversight function of governance, perhaps we may not be saddled with the current tales of missing trillions of government funds.
It’s unrealistic to expect the current government to include all of the previous administrations of Nigeria in a serious probe of gigantic bureaucratic corruption. That would be practically impossible even if this government decides to mobilize all of the agencies of governance towards that end.
I am in agreement with the reported plan of the current government to mount a probe of the previous administration from which it took over governance. That’s how it should be, there or here. If probing the past administration unearths corrupt acts that are linked to or traceable to the administrations that governed prior to Jonathan’s, so be it. It would be irresponsible of the current government to ignore glaring cases of mis-appropriations of government’s funds on the part of its immediate predecessor

    Hello All,
There is no point to rant over this issue/comments by Fayose,

However, there some salient sense with what he said. though No political leader gets there in 9aija all by himself without a sponsor. Let him take Nigeria out of this mess first, to a 6weeks to end of last administration it realized how powerful he was as the C-in-C. Tell me How intelligent a 6yr old child would be by now. Just an example, Where did PHCN get 4 billion from to support GEJ campaign election? when the nation is in perpetual darkness? This is just one of the many questions to be asked. Fayose is right but must be very careful with a Military Blood. This is not a civilian from youth. Hmhmhmhmhmhmhm.

Those who are criticising Fayose are doing so because they too and Many of their colleagues currently hobnobing with Mr President are also corrupt and have skeletons in their cupboards. They will definitely not like someone who will remind PMB of his impartiality stance and promise of ‘I am for everybody and I am for nobody”., because they know they will also be found guilty, if investigated. Or, how will PMB carry out a genuine, unbiased and non-partisan probe of the last administration in this country without touching people like Amechi, Fayemi, Aregbesola and a host of others who are members of his ruling party and contributed a lot to his campaign and emergence as President? and how clean is Buhari himself on this corruption issue? Is the current lopsided appointment of mostly northern into key positions in the country so far, particularly that of the current DSS boss, who is widely claimed to be a noted APC loyalist, if not member not corruption. The – DSS boss is now being accused of terrorizing INEC officials and Party members not loyal to the APC. On the issue of Fayose not giving enough respect to Buhari as an elder statemam and the nation’d President, where were they when the likes of former Governor Amechi of Rivers were were publicly insulting President Jonathan and his wife and heaven did not fall. As for Fayose, he has never insulted Buhari, am says the truth, which people find to be bitter.

Nigerians time has come for us stand up and be objective in our comments. Let remind ourselves objectivity is a noun that means lack of bias judgement or prejudice. That means we should not always be concerned with the message bearer rather we should ruminate on the content of the message. Without prejudice I stand to say who ever needs to be probe for this country to move forward should be and the probe should not be the regular movies that has been arranged over the years. Action must followto address those indicted.
    Thank you.
