The federal capital territory administration (FCTA) says it will partner with the GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, to ensure an improved immunisation coverage in the nation’s capital.
Adedolapo Fasawe, secretary, FCT health services and environment secretariat, spoke on Tuesday during a visit to the primary healthcare centre at the Aleyita community to review the national strategy for immunisation programme service system (NSIPSS).
Fasawe, represented by Yakubu Mohammmed, acting executive secretary FCT primary healthcare board, said GAVI has been a development partner of the administration.
She said the organisation has supported immunisation programme in Abuja.
Fasawe said the support from GAVI has “tremendously” helped the routine vaccination across the territory.
The secretary added that the partnership would be sustained in the FCT PHC facilities, noting that sustainable vaccination translates to taking preventive measures against diseases.
She said with the recent launch of the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine in Nigeria, GAVI should increase their support to enable the FCTA sustain the fight against cervical cancer.
Also speaking at the occasion, Folake Olayinka, global health immunisation team lead, who led the GAVI alliance delegation, said the organisation seeks to increase access to immunisation in developing countries.
“The purpose of the visit was to review the National Strategy for Immunization Programme in order to improve on it and promote good health amongst women and children,” Olayinka said.
