Director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and coordinator of the national information centre, Mr Mike Omeri, has appealed to Boko Haram to surrender its arms and embrace peace.

In an electronic message to TheCable On Tuesday, Omeri urged to the terror group and its funders to see the futility of their actions and surrender.

“The NIC appeals to funders and agents of insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria to see the wisdom of abandoning its fight against our people by immediately surrendering to security forces in the manner others have done at Kondunga,” he said.

“They should know that this war can never be won by them. In this regard, we once again wish to reinforce government’s greater interest in the rescue of all persons and communities that are being traumatised by the callous act of insurgency and assured Nigerians that concerted efforts are being marshaled to ensure a return to normalcy in the affected communities.”

Omeri thanked citizens for their cooperation with the government in the war against insurgency, saying military operations in the northeast were going on according to plan.

“NIC wishes to commend Nigerians for their steadfast support and cooperation with the security forces that has combined to ensure the successes so far recorded in the campaign to defeat terrorism and end insurgency in the country,” he said.

“Although there were intense fighting in parts of Adamawa, especially in Michika and Bazza among other areas, it must be noted that the military action in the northeast to flush out insurgents is going on according to operational plans and the security forces have been recording tremendous gains in recent weeks.”

Omeri enjoined Nigerians to report suspicious persons to security agencies or simply send messages to 112, a security code meant to pass information to security forces.
