There was confusion in Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos on Wednesday, as the zonal office of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the area, got engulfed by fire.

The cause of fire, which started at 3:15 pm, was still unknown as at press time, but a top NTA source, who described the fire as “mysterious”, told NAN that it started from the top of the building.

NAN correspondents, who rushed to the scene, observed that the flames kept worsening as they raged through the top of the building.

The flames from the one-storey building was said to be visible about 500 metres away from the scene.

Among sections affected were the marketing and finance department of the station, engineering and accounts departments. Communication items, files and a mass of documents were also destroyed during the inferno.

Though efforts to speak with the NTA management staff were not fruitful, a source confirmed that no life was lost in the incident.

Three fire fighting vehicles – one PW, a construction firm, the two others from the Plateau fire service – were seen at the scene battling to bring the situation under control.
