Gunmen have killed at least 12 people in Tilengpat community of Pushit district in Mangu LGA of Plateau state.

The gunmen attacked the community on Thursday night.

On Friday, the 12 people were buried in the community.

Speaking during the burial, Markus Artu, chairman of the transition committee in Mangu LGA, condoled with the families of the victims.

Artu said the government will take appropriate measures to provide adequate protection for lives and properties in the state.

He asked residents to report any suspicious movements in their areas to security agencies for necessary actions.

Diket Plang, the senator representing Plateau central, also visited the community to condole with families of the victims.

Plang urged residents to be calm and vigilant while calling on security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

The latest incident adds to the worrisome list of the violent attacks on communities in Mangu and Bokkos LGAs of Plateau.

Last Friday, gunmen killed at least 10 residents of Mandar Shar and Kopnanle villages under Mangu and Bokkos LGAs.

Several villagers were injured while the attackers destroyed many properties.

Some groups in Plateau accused troops of the Nigerian army of shooting at civilians, including vigilantes, during the attack.

However, the Nigerian army said the allegations were “completely unfounded and intended to tarnish” the military’s image.
