Nigeria and Benin Republic are not new to each other at this level. They drew 1-1 in Cotonou in September 2012, while the rematch in Abuja ended in a goalless draw.

After the match, Flying Eagles are expected to leave for Tanzania for their first-leg AYC qualifier slated for the weekend of May 9 to May 11. The return leg will be in Nigeria two weeks later.
