Police: Nyanya blast claimed 19 lives, injured 60

The Nigeria Police Force has said that 19 people died while 60 people were injured during yesterday’s bomb blast at Nyanya.

However, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who participated in rescue efforts immediately after the blast, had confirmed to TheCable very late on Thursday night that at least 25 people died.

Disclosing the official position of the Police, Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba said 10 corpses were deposited at the Asokoro General Hospital Mortuary, while 34 wounded persons are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

At National Hospital, there are 6 corpses and 9 wounded people receiving treatment.

At Pan-Raf Hospital Nyanya, there are only five wounded persons; no corpse.

And at Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, there are 4 wounded persons, same as Customs Hospital, Karu.

Mararaba General Hospital and Nyanya General Hospital have 1 wounded person each.

The Police have cautioned members of the public to stay away from the scene of the explosion, to avoid contamination of the crime scene,” and have also assured Nigerians that investigation into the blast has already commenced.

“While commiserating with the families of the victims, Inspector General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, has advised the general public to remain calm, security-conscious and support the security agencies in order to defeat terrorism and acts of criminality in our land,” Mba said.
