‘For ease of doing business’ — FG inaugurates panel to review public procurement act
The federal government has inaugurated a committee to review the public procurement act 2007.
On June 4, 2007, the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua signed the public procurement act into law.
In May 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari the finance act into after an amendment to certain sections of the 2007 procurement act.
During the inauguration of the panel on Thursday, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said the committee would review the procurement act to meet current economic realities.
The committee is expected to carry out the review within one month.
“Having implemented the Public Procurement Act for over 15 years, this administration has seen the need to review and strengthen the provisions of the Act to make it more responsive to the needs of the people,” Akume was quoted as saying in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, director of information at the office of the SGF.
“The objective of this review is to ensure realistic procurement outcomes in the face of current economic realities and to enhance budget implementation and ease of doing business.”
