Four persons were confirmed dead in an accident on Friday involving a Toyota Camry car at Area J3 on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, said the accident was caused by excessive speed by the driver which led to the loss of control.

Okpe said the vehicle with the registration number BDG 184 FY veered off the road and somersaulted into a swamp.

The FRSC spokesperson said the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue.

“A total of four persons, three men and one woman were involved and they all died from the lone crash,” she said.

“The suspected cause of the lone crash was excessive speed which led to loss of control and the vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted into a swamp.

Anthony Uga, the FRSC sector commander, advised drivers taking a long journey to always have 15 minutes rest after a four-hour drive to avoid fatigue while driving and also go within the stipulated speed limit.

Uga said the families of the victims should contact the FRSC outpost in the Ogbere area for more information about the crash.

Last year, one person died and six were injured in an accident that happened on the same expressway.
