Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, on Thursday evening met with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

TheCable understands that Fubara and Tinubu had a closed door meeting.

However, after some minutes, the Rivers governor left the presidential villa without briefing the press about the agenda of the meeting.

This is the first time Fubara will be meeting with Tinubu after the eight-point presidential peace agreement on the political crisis in Rivers was reached.

On December 18, 2023, Fubara and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), agreed to end the political feud between them after a meeting with the president.

The political crisis in Rivers had climaxed in an attempt to impeach Fubara and the demolition of the state house of assembly complex.

The crisis was linked to the rift between Wike and Fubara, his successor.

Tinubu subsequently intervened to resolve the stand-off between the two politicians.

However, the president has been criticised by some public affairs analysts for his intervention in the crisis.

On December 25, 2023, Fubara said he  was committed to implementing the eight-point peace deal, adding that the agreement is not a death sentence.
