The Lions of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) have been drawn against the Sharks of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in the round of 16 of the 2022 Higher Institution Football League (HiFL) season.

At the draw which took place in Lagos on Thursday, all the eight games for the league’s second round were revealed, alongside the tournament bracket for the season.

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Desert Warriors, the defending champions, will take on the Bayero University (BUK) Stallions while Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU) Luminaries face the Lagos State University (LASU) Blazers.

The Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) Transformers will battle the Kogi State University( KSU) Steelers while the Kaduna State University (KASU) Crocs must hold their own against the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bravehearts.

The Delta State Univerisity (DELSU) Titans are paired against the Ignatius Ajuru University Ekpoma Minders while the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Dazzlers will take on the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Mountaineers.

The University of Agriculture in Markurdi (UAM) Tillers will also slug it out with the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Warriors.

The matches will be in a two-legged format and are billed to hold between July 27 and August 17.

The quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place in August in neutral locations.

Speaking at the event, Shola Fijabi, director of Pace sports and entertainment marketing limited — the league organisers — said the tournament promises more excitement as it enters its business end.

“We are now at a very exciting stage of the league. What was witnessed during the group stages is the tip of the iceberg. The schools are ready and what we assured lovers of collegiate sports is double excitement,” he said.
