Saif Gaddafi, the second son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi will soon announce his intention to run as president of Libya, the family’s spokesman, Basem Hashimi Soul, told Sputnik Monday.

On Wednesday, the Libyan government of national accord’s (GNA) foreign minister, Mohamed Siala, said presidential election in Libya might be held in mid-2018.

“Saif will soon announce the nomination [of his own candidacy] for the election in Libya, this is already a settled issue, no discussions about this are being conducted,” Soul said.

“He will announce this on TV and all the media. He will decide on the date of the announcement in the next few days.”
