Seven months after the death of Benson Lulu-Briggs, founder and chairman of Moni Pulo Limited, an oil exploration and production company, his family is yet to reach a consensus on how to proceed with his remains.

Benson died on December 27, 2018, in Accra, Ghana. His demise has since created controversy among his family. His wife, Seinye Lulu- Briggs, who travelled with him, was accused by her step-children of having a hand in his death.

The police investigation into his death has since moved to Accra with a team led by Adaku Uche-Anya, an assistant commissioner of police, together with the Ghana police criminal investigation department (CID).

The investigation followed a petition by Dumo Lulu-Briggs, a son of the deceased, to the inspector-general of police accusing Seinye, his stepmother, of killing his father.

The Ghanaian police consequently issued an order for a post mortem on the corpse of the oil mogul.

However, disagreement on whether Benson’s remains will be handed to the family for burial or returned to Transitions Place, the funeral home, after the autopsy arose.

The autopsy, initially slated for last July 12, has been postponed by a week.

Seinye and other members of the family had been summoned to Accra by the Uche-Anya-led team for the post -mortem and arrived on July 10.

The family filed a suit at a Ghanaian high court seeking to restrain the funeral home from releasing the high chief’s body for autopsy until they get assurances that the order for autopsy includes the presence as observers pathologists/medical consultants representing the wife and the four other children, and instructs that the body will be returned to the funeral home after the autopsy.

It also demanded that the funeral home would be responsible for transporting the remains to and from the autopsy.

Seinye’s request to have a pathologist represent her and her children were granted by MaameYaaTiwaa Addo-Danquah, Ghana police CID director-general.

Dumo and two of his brothers, Senibo and Sofiri, postponed indefinitely, their father’s funeral, which had been scheduled by the family for April 6.
