The Gombe state government says 20 out of the 109 COVID-19 patients in the state have been discharged after testing negative twice.

Idris Mohammed, chairman of the state task force on COVID-19, broke the news on Friday.

Mohammed, who was represented by Ahmed Gana, the state commissioner for health, said that the 20 patients were discharged following a directive from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“We are happy to inform the general public that NCDC has given us go ahead to discharge a total of 20 cases under our isolation facilities,” he said.

“Ten from Kwadon Isolation facility and the second 10 were from Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe Isolation center.”

He added that more patients would be discharged in the next few days.

According to him, Inuwa Yahaya, governor of the state,  has approved the inclusion of families of those in isolation centres in its palliative scheme.

On his part, Habu Dahiru, commissioner for education in the state and a member of the task force, appealed to the public not to stigmatise those that have been discharged.

Dahiru urged the discharged patients to educate people in their communities that coronavirus is real.

TheCable had earlier reported  how some COVID-19 patients in the state took to the streets to protest alleged poor welfare.
