The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has urged the federal government to declare Nigeria’s economic recession a national emergency.

This is contained in a three-point communiqué read by Abdulaziz Yari, chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara, in Abuja on Friday.

The governors also resolved to support the federal government to continue to “reflate” the nation’s economy out of the present crisis.

They urged the federal government to “as a matter of urgency” tackle the resurgence of polio and Lassa fever.

The governors disclosed that they have agreed to set up state task forces on polio eradication, with their deputies as heads.

They also expressed their commitment to the payment of their states’ counterpart funds in order to meet their obligations towards the eradication of polio.

Yari said his colleagues also discussed the recurring incident of Lassa fever and resolved to collaborate with the ministry of health to address the challenge.
