Suspected gunmen, on Saturday night, invaded the residence of Labaran Maku, a former minister of information, in the Ola community, Akwanga LGA of Nasarawa state.

The gunmen reportedly attempted to force their way into the residence of the former minister but were resisted by security guards stationed at the house.

In the process, three security guards were injured.

The gunmen, who eventually gained access to the house, were said to have escaped before the arrival of security operatives at the scene.

Reacting to the incident, Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa, condemned the attack and said he has directed the police and other security agencies in the state to arrest the suspects.

In a statement by Peter Ahemba, his senior special assistant on public affairs, Sule said the culprits must be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The governor reassured residents of the state of his administration’s readiness to secure the lives and properties of the citizens.

He added that the general well-being of the people remains a top priority of his administration.

“The state government is already partnering with the top military command, the police and other para-military agencies to ensure that the bandits fleeing from other parts of the country as a result of military onslaughts against them do not have hiding places in Nasarawa state,” he said.

The governor, who extended his sympathy to Maku, promised to curb insecurity in all parts of the state.

In June, three relatives of the former minister were kidnapped at their family house in Wakama village, Akwanga LGA of the state.

They were reportedly released after paying an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.
