Anthony Okungbowa, Edo state head of service (HoS), has been kidnapped.

Okungbowa was abducted on Saturday evening by suspected gunmen along Oza Road, in Orhionmwon local government area of the state.

According to NAN, the gunmen reportedly killed his driver, whose name could not be confirmed, before abducting Okungbowa.

A senior civil servant, who craved anonymity, reportedly said the incident happened after Okungbowa attended a local event in Oza.

“He was kidnapped on his way back to Benin City after attending the event. His driver was killed in the process,” the source said.

Following the #EndSARS protest, the insecurity level in the state worsened.

Amid several cult-related killings, an assistant commissioner of police and two inspectors were shot in Benin, the state capital, during an exchange of gunfire with alleged cultists.
