Yakubu Gowon, former head of state, says it is uncertain that activities of the Boko Haram insurgents will end by December.

Commenting on the deadline given to the military to defeat the violent group, Gowon said as a former military officer, he knows about operations of such nature are.

He was speaking when he led an advocacy group to Ebonyi state on a campaign against malaria.

“I can tell you this, nobody can really talk about when any particular operation is going to end,” he said.

“And as a commander-in-chief, I am certain of this. Yes, you can say you target a particular time, but it may finish before that time or it may go slightly beyond.”

Gowon expressed worry over the trend of suicide bombings, regretting that “innocent children” are being used to perpetrate such acts.

“May the spirits of these poor little children who are being brainwashed to carry out such heinous crimes rest in peace,” he said.
