Umar Bago, governor of Niger, says he is making arrangements to hand 100 offices to women in the state.

In a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, chief press secretary to the governor, Bago said the appointments will be a fulfillment of his campaign promise to ensure women inclusion in his administration.

He said his administration will work closely with women to address gender issues, adding that they will be actively involved in policy implementation.

He said many programmes and policies have also been designed for women and children.

The governor said the appointment list will be completed within the week, adding that a coordinator and two senior special assistants will be given to members of the federation of women leaders (FIDA) in the state.

“FIDA is part of this government so let us join hands and work together to bring about the desired growth and development of the state,” he said.

“There are a lot of women initiatives, we are creating a lot of desks to address affirmative actions and also gender-related issues in this government and we hope the collaboration will meet the yearnings and aspirations of women.”
