Jeb Bush, a US Republican presidential aspirant, wants Margaret Thatcher, the first female prime minister of the UK,  as the face of the $10 bill.

Speaking at the CNN presidential debate, brother of the nation’s former president, George Bush, said he would want Ronald Reagan’s partner, Thatcher.

“I would go with Ronald Reagan’s partner, Margaret Thatcher,” he said, emphasising that the likelihood was slim as it is “probably illegal, but what the heck”.

“A strong leader is what we need in the White House, and she certainly was a strong leader that restored the United Kingdom into greatness.”

Donald Trump, who was polled to have led the debate for a second time, said he would want his daughter Ivanka, while Ben Carson said his mother, and Mike Huckabee said “my wife”.

The Obama government announced in June that a new $10 bill, featuring a woman for the first time, will be introduced in 2020.

This has led the US treasury department to seeking suggestions from the public on which “late woman” should appear on the note.

Leading polls for hours after the GOP debate is Rosa Parks, an African-American civil rights activist whom Florida Senator, Marco Rubio, described as “an everyday American that changed the course of history”.

Other names that came up include Clara Barton, Susan Anthony, Abigail Adams and Mother Theresa.

In Nigeria, Ladi Kwali is the only woman on the naira note, inconspicuously placed at the back of the N20 note.
