Former President Goodluck Jonathan has departed the country for England.

The immediate past president only returned to Nigeria on Wednesday night after a long trip abroad, which included a stopover in the UK,

During his absence in the country, it was believed he went on self-exile, but he denied the report.

Before leaving the country, Jonathan received his supporters at the Port Harcourt International Airport, where his plane touched down.

He also hosted some of his kinsmen in Otuoke, his hometown in Bayelsa state, before leaving for Abuja, where he held a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday night.

From the image which Reno Omokri, who served him as senior special assistant on social media, posted on Twitter, Jonathan arrived the UK on Saturday afternoon.

Omokri and the former Nigerian leader (pictured) took the photograph at Heathrow Airport in London.

The schedule of the former president for the next few weeks has not been made public, but he is likely to continue the global tour, which he embarked upon after leaving office.

Jonathan has been meeting world leaders ahead of the launch of his foundation, which is expected to hold later this year.

It would now appear that he came to Nigeria principally to meet with Buhari.
