Adamawa APC threatens to boycott supplementary election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa has threatened to boycott the supplementary governorship election if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insists on conducting the election on Thursday.
Ahmed Lawal, organising secretary of the APC, made the party’s position known in Yola, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Lawal told NAN that the party had rejected the Thursday’s date and communicated its position to the electoral body.
Following the vacation of an order restraining INEC from conducting a supplementary election in the state, the commission had fixed March 28 for the election.
“I don’t know why INEC is rushing, as conducting this election on Thursday will disenfranchise many voters, particularly workers and students who need to go to work and schools.”
Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was leading in the election before it was declared inconclusive.
Fintiri polled 367, 471 votes while Jibrilla Bindow, incumbent governor and APC candidate, polled 334,995 votes.
