Asisat Oshoala joins USA’s Bay FC from Barcelona Femeni

Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons striker, has joined Bay FC, a new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club, from FC Barcelona Femeni. 

The US club announced the signing in a statement on its website on Thursday.

The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal with Bay FC with an option to extend the contract by one year till 2027.

“Bay FC, the Bay Area’s new women’s professional soccer franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), have acquired the rights to Nigerian international Asisat Oshoala through a transfer with FC Barcelona Femení of Liga F in Spain in exchange for a transfer fee, the club announced today,” the statement reads.

“Following the transfer, the forward was signed to a contract through the 2026 season with an option for the 2027 campaign. She will join the team and be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Oshoala will occupy an international roster spot.”

Oshoala spent five years at FC Barcelona Femeni, scoring 107 goals in 149 appearances. She won two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, four Spanish league titles, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa de la Reina.

She finished as the Spanish league’s joint top scorer with 19 goals in 2022. 

Her achievement with the high-flying Barcelona team earned her multiple CAF women’s footballer of the year awards. In 2023, she was named the best footballer on the continent for a record-extending sixth time. 

She also made the shortlist for the women’s Ballon d’Or twice.

Bay FC is a new women’s professional soccer franchise representing the Bay Area, San Francisco, and the 14th team to join the NWSL.

The club was established in April 2023 and co-founded by US Women’s national team legends Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osborne, Danielle Slaton, and Aly Wagner.
