Godswill Obioma, registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), is dead.

He died in the federal capital territory (FCT).

There are conflicting reports on the cause of his death. While some reports say he was assassinated, others say he died after a brief illness at his residence.

TheCable has not independently verified these claims.

When contacted by TheCable, Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman of the Niger police command, did not answer calls or respond to a text message sent to him about the incident.

But a statement sent to journalists by Mustapha Abdul, director human resource management of NECO, said Obioma died after a brief illness.

”Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father Prof. Godswill Obioma the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness,” the statement said.
