The Kogi police command says Pius Kolawole, abducted chairman of Yagba west LGA of the state, has been released.

On Saturday, Kolawole was kidnapped while travelling from Ilorin in Kwara to Kabba, Kogi state. He was in company of Solomon Adebayo, the pension board commissioner who was killed by the gunmen.

Speaking on the development, Ayuba Ede, state police commissioner, confirmed that Kolawole was released on Wednesday.

Ede noted that he’s not aware if ransom was paid before the council chairman was freed.

He added that a team of security agencies had been on the trail of the abductors.

“He has regained freedom. Police and other sister agencies, hunters and vigilante men assisted by technology, mounted unrelenting pressure through a continued search of forests 24/7 until his release,” the commissioner said.

“I’m, however, not in the picture of any ransom payment.”
