Lagos police investigate case of ‘man who died inside cab’

The Lagos police command has begun an investigation into circumstances that led to the death of a passenger in a Bolt car in Lagos.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed the development on Wednesday.

A man whose identity is yet to be disclosed by the police died in a cab being operated by a driver that works for Bolt, an international cab-hailing company.

Hundeyin said the driver claimed that he received an order from the customer to take him from Osapa London, Lekki to the Ikate area of Lekki.

He said the cab driver reported the death of the passenger at Ilasan police Division on Monday after the customer had suddenly screamed “My heart” in his car.

The customer was then rushed to a hospital at Jakande 1st gate, Lekki, and later to another hospital also in Lekki, where he was pronounced dead.

Hundeyin said police visited the hospital, photographed the deceased, contacted members of his family, and deposited the corpse at the Infectious Diseases Hospital mortuary at Marina for preservation and autopsy.

Ogunrin Mohammed, the spokesperson of the Ilasan divisional station, told TheCable that the deceased had health issues and had recently done surgery.

“The family of the man confirmed to us that he had heart surgery recently. The case is with us and please speak with PPRO,” he said.
