Lagos state, the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, has administered 46,369 doses of vaccine against the virus.
Akin Abayomi, Lagos commissioner of health, said 13,563 residents received a shot of the vaccine on Friday.
In an update shared via his Twitter handle on Monday, Abayomi said there is almost an equal number of males and females who have been vaccinated.
“COVID19 Lagos Vaccination Update as at (of) March 19, 2021. 13,563 persons were vaccinated on Friday, March 19, 2021, comprising 6,720 Males and 6,843 Females,” he tweeted.
“46,369 persons have been vaccinated so far as at Friday, March 19, 2021, comprising of 23,232 males (50.1%) and 23,137 females (49.9%).”
The state started vaccinating its residents against COVID-19 on March 12 after receiving about 500,000 doses from the federal government.
It also opened 88 centres where residents can be vaccinated.
“Vaccination can only be obtained at any of the 88 accredited facilities listed. Vaccination outside of these locations in Lagos is highly prohibited and will attract heavy sanctions through our regulatory agencies,” Abayomi had said.
Nationwide, there is no official update on the number of persons that have been vaccinated since Nigeria’s first dose was administered on March 5.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) had told TheCable that the information might be released this week.
