Land grab crisis lands traditional ruler in Kirikiri prison

Nojeem Abioye, traditional ruler (Baale) of Temidire community in the Alagbado area of Lagos, Wahab Abioye, and his son, were remanded in Kirikiri Prison on Thursday over the alleged murder of one Rasaki Olatunji, a police informant better known as ‘Alhaji Gay’.

Lateef Lawal-Akapo, a justice of an Ikeja high court, who gave the order, said the men should remain behind bars pending when their bail applications would be heard.

The duo had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

The judge ruled:”The defendants are hereby remanded at the Kirikiri Medium Security Prisons.

“This case is adjourned to June 23 for arguments of the bail application.”

Olatunji was reportedly killed in Temidire on July 20, 2015, during a protest by landlords and residents purportedly led by the traditional ruler and nine others.

The deceased was allegedly murdered by the defendants over allegations of land grabbing.
