Lobi Stars fight back to beat Mamelodi Sundowns in CAF CL opener
Lobi Stars defeated South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 as the CAF Champions League kicked off on Friday.
The Nigerian team fought back from a goal down to win the first Group A game.
The encounter took place at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.
Lobi reached the CAF Champions League group stage after defeating Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in the first round tie in December 2018.
Liberian international, Anthony Laffor, put Sundowns in front in the 43rd minute of play.
The Pride of Benue replied almost immediately with a goal from Yaya Kone who converted a spot kick.
Lobi Stars completed the comeback through Ebube Duru shortly after the break.
The left back found the back of the net after the initial shot from range bounced around in the box.
Wydad Casablanca will face ASEC Mimosa in the second Group A game.
